Lead Manufacturing Software Engineer - ENG006 (Cambridge, UK)

We have an opportunity for a Lead Manufacturing Software Engineer to join our development team, creating and maintaining production test solutions for our optical switch products and their sub-assemblies at all stages of manufacture. The successful candidate will be responsible for requirements capture, design, implementation and quality assurance of the test software. Extending the built-in test coverage at all levels of the switch architecture will be a key focus. The role will require close cooperation with other engineering teams, new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing in a fast-paced development environment.


  • Capturing, analysing and maintaining manufacturing test software requirements
  • Creating and maintaining manufacturing software documentation
  • Designing software to meet manufacturing test requirements
  • Ensuring delivery of verified manufacturing test software to agreed timescales
  • Prioritising workload for manufacturing software team members
  • Liaising with switch software and NPI teams to facilitate introduction of new tools and built-in test capabilities
  • Contributing to new product introduction gate reviews
  • Releasing new and updated software tools to manufacturing
  • Ensuring training on new features is provided to manufacturing teams
  • Contributing to root cause analysis on failures identified during switch manufacture

Person Specification:

Required Skills
  • Hands-on experience with hardware, especially finding hardware faults through software
  • Previous experience and a strong understanding of software version control
  • Capable of delivering software to an in-house customer
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Highly organised with project management skills and the ability to prioritise workload
  • Flexible and able to work effectively as part of a team promoting communication and understanding of team objectives
  • Self-motivated with a proven track record of delivery
  • Capable of applying existing experience at the cutting edge of technology and developing new skills as required

Desirable Skills
  • Cross-platform development experience
  • Experience with LabVIEW and C software development
  • Understanding of interfaces between Windows and Linux systems
