Polatis products operate at the transport layer of communications networks, providing the intelligent foundation for switching massive amounts of data traffic in a precise and automated way. The new Series 2000 products scale the same ultra-low loss, highest performance switch characteristics of Polatis' proven products, to meet the requirements of today's larger global networks. The Series 2000 switch will be demonstrated for the first time at OFC/NFOEC in San Diego next week at Polatis booth # 813.

The Polatis Series 2000 optical switch is a high-performance, fully non-blocking all-optical 80x80 matrix switch. It is designed to meet the highest performance and reliability needs of the most demanding applications with exceptionally low optical loss, compact size, low power requirements and fast switching speeds. In a compact 3U form factor, the Series 2000 switches data traffic in less than 17 milliseconds and with typical insertion loss of under 1dB. The eco-friendly switch greatly reduces the carbon footprint of optical networks by avoiding unnecessary and power-hungry electrical conversion of express traffic at network nodes

The Series 2000 80x80 switch uses Polatis' patented, proven and precise piezoelectric DirectLight® beam-steering technology. The core of all Polatis switch platforms, DirectLight moves light beams dynamically and with high precision to enable the lowest optical loss and highest optical performance. Uniquely, with Polatis' beam-steering technology, optical connections can be switched without light being present on the fiber, allowing operators to pre-provision paths for disaster recovery, protection switching and network monitoring applications on lit or dark fiber. With DirectLight, the Polatis Series 2000 offers true transparency and can switch bi-directional and transient signals used in PON, FTTH and other transmission systems.
Polatis' Series 2000 80x80 switches can be stacked together to create larger switch fabrics which can scale to thousands of ports while maintaining the best performance and reliability characteristics. Adding a new switch to the virtual fabric does not impact existing switches or connections, and the Polatis distributed virtual switch architecture improves resilience and keeps initial capital costs low with a migration path to larger implementations. The Polatis Multi-Switch Controller provides a single management interface for controlling multiple switches in the virtual architecture.
