NetQuest and HUBER+SUHNER Polatis Deliver Industry's Most Scalable Optical Surveillance Solution for Cybersecurity at OFC 2018

Joint solution helps governments and businesses deploy automated, mass surveillance techniques to fight cyber crime

SAN DIEGO, Calif. #OFC18 – March 13, 2018
-- NetQuest Corporation, a leading manufacturer of cyber surveillance solutions, and HUBER+SUHNER Polatis, the performance leader in all-optical switching, today announced a joint effort to deliver the industry's first automated mass optical network surveillance solution combining NetQuest's intelligent network survey and traffic intercept functions with HUBER+SUHNER Polatis's all-optical switching technology.
NetQuest and HUBER+SUHNER Polatis will display the solution for the first time at OFC 2018. The companies will demonstrate how the solution can enhance cyber intelligence missions by providing a greater ability to search for cyber attacks and the opportunity to increase security across a wide array of large-scale optical network architectures.
While the threat of cyber attacks increases, long-haul and metro optical networks are undergoing sweeping changes with the introduction of proprietary 100G-plus coherent signaling technologies. As traffic volume skyrockets over intercontinental submarine and emerging 5G mobile networks, the task of finding advanced threats is the cyber equivalent of searching for a needle in a haystack. The NetQuest-HUBER+SUHNER Polatis joint solution produces instant access, to thousands of individual fibers for monitoring, by introducing automation to the optical network data access challenge.
"NetQuest and HUBER+SUHNER Polatis are providing broad visibility to an unprecedented volume of traffic and giving today's mission-critical traffic monitoring tools a significant advantage in detecting advanced cyber threats," said Jesse Price, CEO and President of NetQuest Corporation. "Our collaboration on an advanced automation technique for accessing big data carried over large-scale optical transport networks will exponentially improve cyber intelligence missions and network monitoring functions."
The combined solution utilizes NetQuest's Alpine Patrol orchestration platform to manage NetQuest Interceptor appliances and the industry's highest density Polatis all-optical switches–all from a single, integrated management console. Individual optical fibers can be physically tapped and directly connected to the Polatis optical switch. The company offers a wide array of all-optical switches for direct connections ranging up to 384x384 ports, enabling the integrated surveillance system to cycle through thousands of optical fibers and perform automated network survey to reveal signaling attributes of optical communication signals. In contrast, previous solutions were constrained by a limited number of input fiber connections.
"While networks have grown exponentially in both volume and transmission speed, cyber attacks have likewise intensified in number and frequency, increasing the threat to global communications infrastructure," said Gerald Wesel, president and general manager of HUBER+SUHNER Polatis. "Combining our best-in- class all-optical network switching technology, which is right-sized for this application, with NetQuests's innovative approach to access and monitoring, provides unprecedented advantages to mission-critical fiber access and monitoring missions."
The joint NetQuest-HUBER+SUHNER Polatis mass optical surveillance solution will be on display at OFC 2018, Booth #6207, March 13-15 in San Diego, Calif.
